Fredericksburg and the Texas hill country have many examples of architecture imported by the German immigrants. Octagonal buildings are so different from the run of the mill style that they stand out in the landscape. Most of the ones I have seen are not residential, but serve some more public ends. This church is now in the city park, Marktplatz, in Fredericksburg.

Vines seem to be consuming this weathered wooden building in Fredericksburg in the heart of the Texas hill country. The linear texture of the old wood and the more random and rounded texture of the leaves contrasts with the smoothness of the sky. It reminds me that anything that stands still will be overtaken by something. Even today, the once state-of-the-art company, Kodak, ...

I have been cleaning up my hard drive portfolio of images and processing ones like this. Looks sort of like a real sunset, right? It is, almost, except that it is a composite of the original plus a reversed image of the trees. What I really like about it are the vibrant colors and the complex pattern of the dark tree branches and leaves. ...

The early morning sun cast shadows from a large live oak tree on the steeple of this old white wooden church, backed by a clear blue sky in Appalachicola, Florida. The branches from the oak framed the steeple beautifully. I really wanted to go inside to see if it was equally photogenic, but there was no one to ask ...
